Five Steps to Creating a Memorable Wedding

By Eric Devlin

Congratulations! You are getting married and ready to experience the best day of your life. A wedding is the most important event in a person’s life, signaling the bond of two becoming one. There are less memorable things (such as Uncle Jack’s love for open bars), but you can easily squeeze those memories out by creating a memorable experience of your own. It only needs a touch here or there, but it makes such a wonderful difference to your special day. Here are five steps for creating that memorable experience:

1. Pre-wedding pampering. This is usually a bride-exclusive event, but men need apply. Men might think it is ‘weird,’ among other unmentionable things, but it’ll really freshen up their day, prepping them up for the ceremony. Weddings are stressful, so take some time beforehand to get a nice massage, have a relaxing facial, and enjoy some cuisine before getting ready.

2. Travel in style. Instead of entering the church in your Sedan, rent out a limo instead. It’s elegant, spacey enough for the entire wedding party, and you’ll have time to relax as the limousine driver drives you to your destination. You might even have time to enjoy a glass of champagne or two! When you step out of the limo, and your dress’ train falls elegantly as you walk away, you will truly be the star of your big day.

3. Personalize the ceremony. Instead of incorporating a simple Catholic mass, personalize it with singers, special readings, or a different spin on “Here Comes the Bride.” Hire a singer or two to sing a special song during the ceremony. Have a friend read a special passage from the Bible or religious text of choice. Instead of hiring an organist, hire a guitarist instead for a relaxed, casual ceremony. When you infuse your personal touch to your ceremony, both your spouse-to-be and guests will remember it for life.

4. Delegate your responsibilities. Your wedding is indeed a large production for the woman. She is the star of the show, so it is important that she only focus on the most important event of the day - sharing it with your spouse-to-be. She should delegate. Ahead of time, make sure that all of your bridesmaids and groomsmen have their share of responsibilities, so she only has the responsibility of enjoying her big day.

5. Create a fun reception. Instead of creating a reception that simply the traditional fare, infuse your personality into the festivities. Remember, a reception gives all of your guests an opportunity to celebrate your bond with your soul mate - and give them an ability to express their excitement! You may want to hire both a traditional band and a DJ, who will both play songs that will have the crowd, young and old, on their feet. Or, you could hire an instructor to teach your guests a fun dance. When your guests have fun, they celebrate your lifelong bond - and remember your wedding forever.

Ready to walk down that aisle? By following these simple steps, you will enjoy a memorable wedding you and your guests will remember for ages. Wedded bliss does not have to be traditional - infuse your personality and your wedding day will be marked in history.

How to Plan a Bridal Shower

By Jamie Jefferson

Planning a wedding shower is normally reserved for the bridesmaids, but family members and friends can throw them as well. If you are a planning a wedding shower for a friend or family member, there are a few simple steps to follow. When you plan well, you’ll have a fun shower that’s enjoyable for everyone, especially the bride-to-be. Here are some tips.

The first thing to decide is what kind of shower you’re going to have. These days the traditional girls-only showers aren’t necessarily the norm. Couples showers are becoming common, too. These showers include the bride and groom and both genders of friends are invited. Develop a guest list with the help of the guest (or guests) of honor, and make sure to take your budget and the size of your location into consideration. You don’t want your guests to be crowded in your space and you want to make sure that you have enough chairs.

You will also need to pick a theme to give the party atmosphere and pizzazz. The theme will coordinate the decorations, invitations and other party supplies. The theme can also carry over to the gifts. Lots of showers focus on one aspect of a couple’s new life together, such as kitchenware, lingerie, bath accessories or a hobby that the couple enjoys. If you’re planning a particular type of shower, make sure to include a note about it in the invitations so people can buy accordingly.

Once you choose the theme and fill out the invitations, you’ll need to send them out at least six weeks in advance. Make sure to include an R.S.V.P. and the name of the bride-to-be. Traditional etiquette dictates that you shouldn’t include information on the bride-to-be’s registry in the invitation, but a lot of people appreciate the convenience. Modern rules of etiquette state that you can include a small note on a separate slip or paper inside the invitation envelope, but don’t write the information on the actual card.

Your next decision is food. The time of day for your party will determine what kind of food you serve. If you decide to hold a shower at a restaurant or banquet hall, your food choices will be obvious. You can arrange a certain selection of entrees with the kitchen or just allow the guests to choose for themselves. If you are serving at home, you’ll need to provide food and drink.

You should try to fit the theme of the shower as best you can. For example, if you’re having a unisex barbecue themed shower, try hot dogs and chips. A traditional English tea female-only shower would need finger sandwiches and a selection of teas. If your budget is tight, try planning the shower between meals so that you only have to serve snacks.

In addition to food, you should plan some games for the group to enjoy. They can be as wild as dressing up two guests as brides with toilet paper and giving a prize to the best “dressed” to something as simple as “guess how many jelly beans are in this jar.” Make sure to purchase a small gift for each game so you can reward the winners.

Help the bride to be keep track of her gifts by assigning someone “note taking” duty or doing it yourself. She’ll definitely appreciate that when the time comes to send out thank you notes. Help the bride keep her gifts organized and clean up the wrapping paper as you go so everyone can see the gifts she’s opened.

Choosing A Wedding Dress Is No Easy Matter

By Bob Wright

Choosing a wedding dress is no easy matter and a lot of time must be spent doing so. If you are having your dress designed by a designer, make sure you both understand each other including the chosen design. Choosing a wedding dress, next to choosing her groom, is a personal and important decision. Wedding dresses set the tone for the entire day. Choosing a dress is quite possibly the most important fashion decision in a woman’s life, and every bride would want to look her absolute best on the day. With that kind of pressure, it sometimes makes sense to turn to the experts. Many brides start searching for the perfect wedding dress as early as a year before the wedding day.

Traditionally speaking, white is the most common wedding dress color. This has been the case since Victorian times, and it will probably remain for some time yet.

Traditional themes are still good choices, but non traditional wedding themes are gaining in popularity. Traditional flower girl dresses are usually white with full, ruffle skirts underneath to give them the bridal look. Flower accented dresses are also popular among flower girls. Traditional wedding favors would usually include either Jordan Almonds or other candies placed inside small boxes or containers or wrapped with fancy fabric and ribbons. Some theme related examples would include a romantic theme, Cinderella or fairytale theme, spring or garden theme, beach or summer theme, fall theme, winter or Christmas theme, wine theme, and more.

Remember this is your party so enjoy yourself and wear a dress that you really want and feel comfortable wearing. For the bridal showers, you might want to show your friends the veil. Remember too that there are many discount wedding dress shops.

Boat Weddings - Say “I Do” to a Wedding on Water

By Shari Hearn

Want to know where one of the hottest wedding destinations is? On water. That’s right, it seems the idea of getting married on a boat is gaining in popularity each year.

And, why not? There’s just something about water that just screams romance. In addition, most boat charter companies or cruise lines will take care of all the details for you in one convenient wedding package, leaving you to just enjoy your wedding.

But, what about the cost? How much is all that romance on a boat going to set you back? As with all weddings, there can certainly be a wide range of cost. But, given that the average cost for a U.S. wedding is creeping up towards $30,000, you’d be surprised to learn that you can have a boat wedding for a fraction of the typical wedding cost.

Where can you have a boat wedding? Anywhere that floats your boat…literally. You can have a boat wedding in an exotic location like the Bahamas or Virgin Islands, or popular U.S. destinations like Florida, California, Hawaii and Alaska. You can even be married on a boat in Dubuque, Iowa! If there’s a body of water, you can be married on it, whether it’s a cruise ship, sailboat, powerboat or gondola.

Considering that there are hundreds of boat wedding locations and options, it may be difficult to choose which one is right for you. But, here are just a few boat weddings to consider; some obvious, some not so obvious:

Cruise Ship Weddings:

When most people think of a boat wedding, they usually think of a wedding on a major cruise ship. A cruise ship wedding allows couples to have their wedding and honeymoon at the same time. Some couples choose to get married on the ship before the ship leaves port, which allows for friends and family to attend without having to join the cruise. The cruise then becomes your honeymoon. Some cruise lines, such as Princess, Azamara and Celebrity, offer weddings at sea on selected ships. Princess even offers a live webcam of the wedding, so family and friends back home can be a part of the wedding.

Wedding Aboard the Queen Mary - Long Beach, California:

Want a cruise ship wedding without having to leave port? Consider the Queen Mary, an Art Deco wonder, now operating as a floating hotel and popular tourist attraction in Long Beach, California.

You can choose to have your wedding in the Queen Mary’s Chapel or on deck, with a Gazebo Ceremony for up to 100 guests, or the Queen Mary Verandah Deck wedding ceremony for up to 350 guests. If you choose to elope with the just two of you, or if you have a small number of guests (under 15 people), you can opt for the inexpensive Intimate Wedding Ceremony package. For more information on a Queen Mary wedding you can email chapel@queenmary.com.

Sailboat Wedding off St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands:

Say “I do” while sailing the magnificent waters around St. Thomas. Then, after you exchange vows, jump into the tranquil waters, wedding dress and all, and go snorkeling. You can find numerous charter companies on St. Thomas, including Weddings By Sea, that offers couples weddings on a sailboat for 2 to 6 people starting at just $550. You can reach them at married@weddingsbysea.com. St. Thomas offers newly-wedded couples a honeymoon filled with adventure and relaxation. Be sure to take the St. Thomas Skyride to Paradise Point, 700 feet above sea level, for a panoramic view of Charlotte Amalie Harbor.

The Paddlewheeler Creole Queen - New Orleans, LA:

Take a step back in time and get married on the Mississippi River aboard the Paddlewheeler Creole Queen. Though built in 1983, the Paddlewheeler Creole Queen is richly appointed in Victorian detail, from the promenade deck where you’ll say your vows, to one of the elegant dining rooms where you’ll hold your reception. Afterward you’ll honeymoon in one of the most popular cities in America, New Orleans. And, since it’s your honeymoon, you’ll definitely want to take the French Quarter Love Stories Walking Tour. For more information on getting married on the Paddlewheeler Creole Queen email pbair@visitnola.com.

Gondola Wedding - Venice, Italy:

What’s one of the most romantic cities in the world? Why, Venice, of course. A gondola wedding in Venice may be one of the most romantic boat weddings you can imagine, as you say your vows while gliding through the canals under bridges, and past ancient palaces and lovely villas. The hard part will be in deciding which incredible wedding photo to put on your mantle.

Gondola Wedding - San Diego, CA:

Can’t make it to Venice, Italy? Then how about a gondola wedding while cruising the Coronado Cay off San Diego? The Gondola Company, which operates out of Coronado Island, provides several different wedding packages for you to choose from. You can opt to arrive to your waterfront wedding on a gondola to the delight of your wedding guests, or you can choose to get married on the gondola, with wedding guests either watching from shore or joining you in their own gondolas. Of course, this is also a perfect wedding for just the two of you. And, for a small charge, you can add a violinist or mandolin player. You can contact the Gondola Company at 619-429-6317.

Actually, I did spend quite a bit of time on this site … just not posting. I’ve been brainstorming with my web/marketing geek. We are playing with a few ideas to fast track this site for much heavier traffic. We have also started setting up a user/reader forum and also have several other ideas in the works.

So, please bear with me as we get the dust knocked off this place …

Simple Tips For An Outdoor Wedding

By Amanda Jane

Some couples prefer a short engagement period and in doing so do not allow much time to for wedding preparation. This is common for small common ceremonies. However, couples planning the party of the year must allow at least 6 months handling all pertinent details. Outdoor weddings are at top pick among weddings and a great alternative to having the ceremony inside the church or a reception hall. Although getting married ocean side or under the stars is definitely romantic, outdoor weddings call for additional planning to guarantee a perfect uninterrupted ceremony.

Once the couples settle on the location as venue, they should contact their local parks and recreation departments. This city department can inform the couple whether a particular location is available for that date and whether it can be used for the wedding and whether any fees must be paid. Securing and outdoor location this way will also assure privacy because most outdoor wedding are held on public property unlimited guest may slip into the crowd. When weddings are held in parks or beaches officials generally close a specific section to the public. Some couples assume that outdoor weddings are cheaper however outdoor weddings require so many amenities to ensure that guest are comfortable these weddings tend to cost more. There is no way to predict the weather therefore there is no way to determine whether a couple outdoor wedding will be a dry event or a wash out. Therefore, if rains become an issue there will be prepared with a back up plan.
